There is a great development in the education sector, the government has finally launched a portal vidyalaxmi.co.in for students who are looking for a loan. Big banks like SBI, IDBI Bank and Bank Of India have integrated their system with this website.
“Vidya Lakshmi (www.vidyalakshmi.co.in) was launched on 15th August 2015 on the occasion of Independence Day for the benefit of students seeking education loans,” according to an official statement released by the Finance Ministry.
NSDL e- Governance Infrastructure Limited (NSDL e- GOV) will be looking after the portal and it’s maintenance under the guidance of Department of Finance Ministry, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and Indian Banks Association( IBA). The Vidya Lakshmi Portal will help provide a single window for students to access information. They can also apply for educational loans provided by banks and also by government scholarships. Its aim is to ensure that no student misses out on higher education due to lack of funds.
The students will be able to access the educational loan schemes of banks, and also common educational loan form. They will have the facility to apply to multiple banks for educational loans and have the facility to download students loan applications. The students will also have the facility to email their grievances or queries relating to educational loans and view the status of their loan application. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his budget speech has proposed to set up a fully IT based student aid authority to administer and monitor scholarships as well as educational loan schemes through Pradhan Mantri Vidya Lakshmi Karyakram.
